Beauty Sleep

Skin makes new cells twice as fast during sleep time as during walking hours. Several studies have found that sleep deprived humans have lower levels of a growth hormone the skin needs to repair environmental damage and produce new skin cells. When skin cell replacement falls behind then wrinkles and slackness results.

While individual sleep requirements vary between 7 and 9 hours is average. As you get your beauty rest, avoid creating bed wrinkles by sleeping on your back. Lying on your side or stomach means squashing your face into a pillow and then walking up with crazy crease marks. When we are young these folds smooth out almost instantly. But as we age our collagen and elastin grow less resilient meaning those creases can stay for hours or even permanently. Tip for Plenty of nourishing beauty sleep

Plently if nourishing sleep is one of the secrets of a good complexion and a healthy body. Try to maintain regular sleep patterns. DO.

. Keep regular hours for sleeping and waking. . Try conscious relaxation or meditation before bedtime. It helps to calm the mind. . Add a tablespoon of honey to a glass of warm milk and drink it before bedtime. . Keep the room at a comfortable temperature. . Try reading a book. . Have a bed switch, so you don't have to get up to turn out the lights. DON'T.

. Exercise just before bedtime. . Try to sleep immediately after a meal. . Have stimulants like coffee before bedtime. . Keep your TV set in the bedroom. . Force yourself to sleep. It's a sure way of keeping awake! All major brands of skincare and makeup, with free worldwide shipping, from StrawberryNET.com

Natural Beauty for Women Over 50

Natural beauty doesn't have to fade with age. Gorgeous skin and an attractive body are still within the grasp of women in their 50's.

As we grow older our bodies slow down on the production of collagen, which is the mesh of fibers that support the skin and give it its youthful plumpness and natural beauty. There are several things you can do to give nature a helping hand, aid collagen production and firm up your facial muscles if you are a woman over 50.

Vitamin C together with vitamin E helps with natural collagen production. As the body produces its new collagen in the first two hours of sleep it makes sense to take supplements of vitamins C & E an hour before going to bed.

This way your body has a reserve of the vitamins it needs to produce its own collagen.

High doses of Vitamin C are needed, much higher than the recommended daily allowance; research has shown that 2000 mg taken in two doses of 1000 mg, once in the morning and again an hour before bedtime have produced good results for some women.

Drink plenty of water. It's been said a thousand times before and it really does work. Imagine a balloon filled with water, its surface is firm and taut and springs back easily when depressed. If you slowly let the water out the surface of the balloon becomes softer and less firm, the surface dents easily when depressed. As more and more water is let out of the balloon it becomes flabby and its surface wrinkled, it no longer springs back when depressed.

This will give you an idea of the importance of water in natural beauty and the role it plays in keeping your skin firm and supple.

Facial exercises can help natural beauty for women over 50. The muscles of the face are very intricate, giving mobility to every single inch of it. The most important, from the beauty point of view, are the zygomaticus muscles which extend across the cheeks from the temples to the corners of the mouth, keeping the contours of the face firm.

All the facial muscles determine the expression of the features. Chewing exercises the face.

Smiling and laughing, although they may add a few lines around nose, eyes and mouth, also exercise cheek muscles and pull the corners of the mouth in an upward direction, preventing the face from sagging.

Your face will age long before your body. Its muscles react negatively to stress, emotion and tension. It's easy to get into the habit of grimacing, frowning and raising eyebrows and this leads to lines and wrinkles that become more definite each year.

Facial exercises improve and maintain the characteristics of a youthful contour and covering.

If you want to smooth out your frown lines, visibly tighten up your wrinkly neck and lose your saggy cheeks simple exercise techniques are the answer.

As with any exercises it takes 2-3 weeks to see any noticeable improvement but done every day facial exercises can transform your face and knock years off your age.

In summary, women over 50 should take vitamins C and E for natural collagen production, drink plenty of water to help keep skin taut and supple and practice facial exercises to maintain youthful contours and natural beauty.

Balancing Beauty - Professional Makeup Tips

A young girl cashed me out the other day wearing so much eyeliner I thought she was a quarterback. I was going to tackle her, get her in a half nelson, and buff her eyes down, but then she gave me my croissant and I became distracted. I have nothing against aggressive eye lining (Diana Ross's signature look) it was the rest of her naked territory staring me in the face… an uneven skin tone, dry lips and a couple of lonely cheekbones available for coloring.

I see too much of this - an unfinished face. She looked like some poor soul was in the middle of a makeover and security walked in and broke it up. I'm not suggesting for a minute one has to be over zealous in front of the mirror at five thirty in the morning. But life is a balancing act and so is beauty! If you had three children, you wouldn't dress just one of them and send the other two on an outing. (That was my childhood). Your babies are your eyes, cheeks and lips. Dress all three and there will be no divorcees. Here's some makeup tips to help you along.

Big Makeup Tip #1
Don't get lippy when your eyes are doing the talking!

If your eyes are the focus of the makeup look, keep the other two color areas softer. Dark eyes and dark lips are extremely stylized, and few can pull it off. Let one of the three color areas of your face take center stage while the others do backup. Don't underestimate back ups. Backup dancers made Madonna's girly tour famous!

Giant Makeup Tip #2
Fast Formula for Fabulousness!
Base, Brows, Lashes & Lips

This is a partial but complete look from top to bottom. Partial doesn't mean compartmentalized.

Your base: Whatever format of foundation you choose, it should be a color and texture to match to your skin. Color matching will allow you to place your foundation ONLY in problem areas - not ear to ear. This will make your skin sing with minimal product. Texture matching will keep your own personal moisture level uniform. If you have an oilier skin type, and chose an opposite texture format to your base (i.e. dry powder foundation) this will look contrived and patchy since it is so polar from your own skin's moisture level.

Solution: Choose an oil free liquid foundation that will co-exist with your skins natural glow.

Have your brows groomed by a professional: I personally am a huge fan of traditional trimming and tweezing. Once your natural brow has been assessed and brought up to speed (that LA - Hollywood brow) just a bit of simple finessing with color in the morning will frame a minimal makeup look into a natural beauty.

One minute Mascara application! Wipe your mascara wand with a Kleenex. Too much product loaded on the brush will ensure a lumpy, clumpy drive into the office and potentially impair your driving. It takes very little product to build your lashes…trust me. When the tube gets slightly dry, add a couple of drops of 99% alcohol to the tube. It will help re-liquefy it and kill some bacteria.

Lush up your lips! There is an array of stains & glosses out there like never before. No excuses for a naked mouth. If you have no idea what shade you may indulge in, here are some makeup tips for your new beauty adventure - if your hair color is light, then lighter, softer lips shades are more favorable. If you have darker hair, then more vibrant, richer lips are in place for you. The cooler your hair color is…stay with cooler shades on your mouth. And the warmer your hair color, warm up your smile. If you are not sure on the color status of your do, ask your hairdresser what category you fall in.

Good luck beauties, I'll be watching.

7 Winter Fashion Essentials For Plus Size Women

How do you modify this season's winter fashion trends to flatter the plus size woman? I mean the models on the catwalk are nothing like us plus size gals. So how do we translate what they wear to what would still look good on us.

Black is in. (Slimming color. Great for any big woman with cool skin tones). Jewel tones are in. So are animal prints. So are metallics. Notice a trend? This happens every winter so go for these colors and you would have something fresh to wear every winter.

Be careful with metallics though as they make you look bigger. Save metallics for shoes, handbags and accessories. Not the belt. Go for a thick dark belt for a slimmer waist.

Which brings us to the first winter essential.

1. A thick dark belt with a stunning buckle Get a belt that is absolutely gorgeous and which fits you. A wide belt would be better for plus size women as a skinny belt looks too wishy washy. That belt can transform any dress you wear, spice up your jeans or skirts or even your coat. A dark wide belt would make your waist look smaller while shiny metallic belts make your waist look bigger. Get a black or dark belt with a stunning buckle.

2. Thermal underwear. In winter, it gets really cold. Thermal underwear locks in the heat so you don't have to wear that many layers to keep warm. Extra layers add extra bulk which is the last thing you want. Great thermal underwear under the slimmest jeans you can wear and under that curve hugging sweater would make a great winter outfit.

3. A figure hugging sweater. If you've got it, flaunt it. Show your curves via a figure hugging sweater. Think of the sweater girls in the 1940s and 1950s. Go for a jewel toned sweater.

4. A black dress knee length or longer Hey, black is in. Black on black is in. Black looks great with metallic accessories that you can take and black is slimming. This is one classic you can wear year after year, season after season. Avoid anything voluminous would make you look fat, so go for a sleek black dress that skims your curves. Or one slighly loose you can belt to define your waist. One of these plus size black dresses would be ideal.

5. A pair of new plus size jeans 6. Black wool tights. Make them wool and super warm. A pair you can wear under your dress and not freeze to death.

7. Womens plus size wool coats - Get at least one new coat in a color that really flatters you. Belt it or get one that curves in at your waist or a more flattering look. This is a practical winter classic that you would wear year after year, and it can easily hide those extra pounds you've gained during the holiday season.

You can get all these winter essentials at www.women-plus-size-clothing.com A portal for plus size women.

Every since Straightening became the new thing over 5years ago the hair straightening world has just got bigger and bigger. It's not only hairdresser's getting in on the act but its celebrities, small companies and shops all trying to make money out of straightening hair.

Hairdresser's all use Straighteners nowadays but not only for straightening but for curling as well as flicks this especially used for shorter hair styles. It can give your hair a fantastic shine but it can also make your have become brittle, looks unhealthy with split ends, the best thing to do is only straighten your hair a few days a week not everyday.

More and more celebrities and famous hairdressers are creating their own Straighteners and selling these in high street shops and good hairdressers. Most hair straighteners are black in color but the GHD Limited Edition at the moment are fuchsia pink which is great for us girlies but they do come at a price of around £120.00.

I had a pair of cheap £9.99 pink straighteners when straighteners first began to come into the shops I thought they were fantastic in my favorite color too, but then I tried my friends and hers worked so much better so I decided to go and buy a new paid I believe were Babyliss they were a little better but had thinner plates so it was taking me even longer to do my hair as mine is quite thick and long then I bought a pair of cheap Remington ones but they weren't very good never actually straightened my hair. A few months after that, after visiting a salon and having my hair colored blonde and pink and having it all layered they straightened it once it was complete and it looked fab it really did, the straighteners got hot really quickly nothing liked the ones I had at home 20minutes before I wanted to use them I would have to put them on. So I found the price out of these ones they were £60.00 - I thought this was very expensive as I was only on £300.00 a month but I decided to save my money up the next month and I bought a pair that was 5 years ago and they still work they are Futura and I would recommend them to anyone with thicker and longer hair. I've never had any problems with them, so overall those have been a very good investment. I have now decided I want a new pair, ones with slimmer plates so I can use them to curl my hair too. IM hoping I might get the Mark Hill ones with the pink plates love them there around £100.00 I'm hoping there worth it, until you've tried them you don't know.

There are so many different makes of hair straighteners out there so which ones to choose is the question!!! Here are a few of the ones I've heard are good to use and heat up quickly: -

* GHD black or pink (depends if you want to spend an extra £20 for pink ones) * Babyliss 2085U Pro 230 * Andrew Collinge Straight N Shine * Chill Professional Solid Ceramic * Corioliss Purple * Daniel Hersheson Ceramic * EasyStraight One Week * Farouk Chi Turbo 2" Flat Iron * Fox Salon Styler Ceramic * Futura Ceramic * KIKI Tourmaline Ceramic * Morphy Richards and Mark Hill Thermo Ceramic * Morphy Richards 22070 Cordless * Nicky ClarkeNCS15 Frizz Control Ceramic * Pro Ceramic Ionic * Remington CS3000 Ceramic Slim * Remington PR4000 Professional Ceramic Slim * Remington S3002 Teflon Hair * SCP Hair Straightners Mk 5.2C * T3 Tourmaline Straightners by Hairart * Trevor Sorbie Client Collection * Go-Straight Digital Titanium

All of the above have very good reviews from my friends and family as well as good compare websites. So if I was to buy another pair I would definitely start by looking at the above list.

Happy Hair Straightening!!!

5 Proven Secrets To Youthful Skin

As you grow old, your skin is slowly losing its elasticity and in the process, you develop lines and spots on your skin. To make things more complicated, the environment itself can take its toll on your skin. Take action against the slow deterioration of your skin; maintain a youthful looking skin no matter what by following these simple tips.

Moisturize Your Skin

The first commandment in any skin care treatment is to ensure that your skin gets all the moisture that it needs. Skin dryness or dehydration is the biggest cause of skin damage, so you must avoid it at all costs. You do not need to spend a fortune in ensuring a well-moisturized skin; in fact, if you have to invest in your skin care regimen, a good bottle of moisturizer lotion or cream will go a long way.

The best time to apply your moisturizer is right after you have taken a hot shower when the pores of your skin are open and ready to absorb your moisturizing application. Also, always remember to target hard and dry areas when applying your moisturizer; apply more of your lotion or cream on areas like your knees, elbows, hands and feet.

Cleanse Your Skin At Least Once A Day

The reason is obvious. As the most exposed organ in the body, the skin is exposed to all types of dirt and contaminants, including germs and bacteria. All these harmful elements can surely hamper or damage your skin's ability to create fresh layers; in turn, making your skin look old and dry.

By cleansing your skin at least once a day, you keep it free from harmful contaminants. Basic soap and water will do. And with a soft sponge as your scraper, you also gently remove stubborn dirt lodged in the pores of your skin.

Always Pat Dry

When drying, always pat your skin with a soft towel and never ever scrub your skin, especially on your face area, because hard rubbing motion will surely damage your skin cells and create deep creases for you later on. Apart from this, all the needed nutrients and the natural oils secreted by your skin are also totally wiped out with scrubbing action; leaving your skin dry and defenseless against contaminants.

Always Wear Sunscreen

With the present condition of the Earth's ozone layer, harmful ultraviolet rays can penetrate your skin easily whether you are outdoors or indoors. That's right, if you think that UV rays can not damage your skin when you are protected by roofs and walls, you are dead wrong! Wherever sunlight can enter, ultraviolet emissions can wreak havoc on your skin; so never think twice about putting on that sunscreen.

The main reason that babies have such supple and soft skin is that they have not yet been exposed to sunlight for too long. The sun's rays can contribute a lot in making your skin old, wrinkly and a haven for spots.

Exfoliate And Then Exfoliate Some More

To let new layers of skin come out, you need to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation is the process of removing or scraping away dead skin cells. As you do this to your skin, you also remove deep-seated dirt and spots on your old skin. Exfoliation will leave your skin always feeling soft and radiant just like that of a baby.

Apart from these practices, you can also add drinking plenty of water and taking vitamins that can nourish your skin. Some products are also rich in nutrients that can nurture and reinvigorate your skin, just like Rejuvinol. For more details about keeping your skin moisturized visit www.Rejuvinol.com.

Some factors, such as heredity or hormones cannot be avoided, and in fact are probably the most prominent factors in determining whether a person may have acne. Other factors, however, can be reduced or eliminated as one of the natural ways to get rid of acne.

Skincare Tips to Slow Down Aging

An appropriate and effective skincare routine can be the answer to the bogging problem regarding formation of wrinkles and spots due to aging. As always, good skincare regimen, healthy lifestyle and good nutrition would be ample in making the skin look vibrant and more beautiful. While it is a fact that there is no means to prevent aging, proper care could help slow the natural process down and make it a graceful occurrence.

Skin aging is a natural effect of skin cells’ wear and tear processes. Be reminded that there is definitely no existing skincare product in the market that could prevent skin aging so beware when some manufacturers claim that their products do so. However, several goods will surely help in skin repair.

Understanding the natural process of skin aging set a good start. There are two different types of skin aging. Intrinsic aging is internal and is caused by the genes that are inherited from parents. The process can also be extrinsic or external that may have been caused by factors in the environment like exposure to air and water pollution, to the harmful sunrays and to chemicals from skincare products and medications. It would be helpful if you would take time to fully understand the concepts so that you will be able to determine the reason behind your rapid skin aging.

Wearing and tearing of the skin that may result to evident skin aging can be helped by observing the following simple guidelines:

Consume more alkaline food. It would be advisable if you would include in your diet alkalinizing food like onions, lemon, garlic, olive oil, whole grains, nuts, dark-green vegetable leaves and seeds. To back the effort, reduce consumption of acidic foods like dairy products, meat, refined carbohydrates and sugar.

It would help if you would have calcium-mineral and pro-biotic supplements.

Hydrate the skin more by taking in ample amount of fluid. Between six and eight glasses of clean water each day is the ideal ratio of water intake. By doing so, you are helping your body flush out toxic substances from the body and help prevent skin aging effectively.

Having regular and tedious exercise routine would help prompt the capillaries to function more effectively, in turn, bringing more oxygen to the skin. The sweating also helps bring out natural and accumulated body toxins.

Taking a stress free and cheerful lifestyle would help. As you all know, many experts have already warned that stress from many sources result to dry skin that rapidly ages. Natural Skincare From Green Tea

Chinese herbal practice is very well known for its natural ingredients and its numerous organic products. One of the wonders of Chinese health practice is green tea. Through the years, the habit of drinking green tea has become popular from the mainland to many parts of the world. Because of its known health benefits, demand for the beverage has significantly risen to new levels. Now, there are studies that link natural skin care benefits from consumption of green tea.

In China and many other Asian countries like Japan, Thailand and India, green tea has been found to be very effective in having several medicinal properties. Particularly, the tea has been used to aid digestion and help heal wounds. While modern medicine is still finding proofs for the therapeutic claims for green tea, some people readily accept the known health benefits based on hundreds of years of experience and observations.

Many modern traditional Chinese skincare products now have green tea as an active ingredient to them. There are creams, lotions and beauty preparations that are known to have green tea extracts in them. These skincare and beauty products also have antioxidants and vitamins E, C and A added to serve as natural preservatives. What is more? These natural products are said to be more effective because the good effects of green tea are matched by the natural good effects of the other nutrients. There are new findings of studies showing green tea as having additional skin care properties. For one, the active ingredients in the beverage are said to be effective in offsetting the harmful impact of skin damaging ultraviolet rays from the sun. Experiments using several kinds of animals have established that green tea formulations help reduce sun damage to the skin. The radicals and natural properties of the beverage reduce inflammation and help serve as blockage to screen out the damaging properties of sun rays. Experts advise that you drink green tea or use products with it along with the regular use and application of your usual sun block protection.

No wonder, green tea is starting to be present everywhere. Now, you can find green tea in modern cold beverages. Several soft drink manufacturers are developing drinks based on green tea as a possible good replacement for the ever popular soft drinks and fruit juices. There are even green tea beverages that have different and truly interesting flavors. Green tea used to be served hot and in cups. Now, they can be iced cold and can be enjoyed anytime of the day or even as a refreshment during a very hot summer day.

Choosing the Appropriate Acne Treatments for Oily Skin

Acne treatments for people with oily skin are a bit more complicated than those used on other types of skin. From diet to vitamin supplements to daily habits, oily skin needs constant care since it is the type most prone to acne and other skin problems.

Acne treatments for oily or greasy skin should start with one's diet. Although food has never been proven to cause acne on its own, certain meals do aggravate pimples if you already have them. If you have greasy skin, the best thing to do is to increase your intake of vegetables and fresh fruits and avoid junk and processed foods. Drinking lots of water should also be part of your agenda. Aside from helping keep your skin clear, a diet rich in fresh fruits can help your metabolism better and improve bowel movements that can flush out unwanted elements in your body.

Hygiene is also an important aspect of preventing acne in oily skin types. Washing your skin at least twice a day is a must to get rid of the dirt and the excess oil that clog your pores and cause zits to appear. In choosing a facial wash, it is better to use products that will not increase your skin's oil production. Water-based or oil-free facial washes should be used, or soaps with a balanced pH, followed by astringent to get the deep-cleansing effect.

Contrary to most people's belief, oily or shiny skin still needs constant moisturizing. No matter what type of skin we have, moisturizers are skin-care products that we should never do without, particularly when we hit the age of 25 and above. Moisturizing products designed particularly for greasy skin are available over the counter or you can consult your dermatologist for the best one. When it comes to supplements, vitamin A has been found to be good for shiny skin since it helps control the production of oil. A daily dose of this supplement can help balance the tone of oily skin and help in keeping it clear.

If you're not much into bottles and tubes and would prefer a more natural approach, home-based acne solutions are also available for shiny skin. The usual remedies are facial packs and pastes. These facial packs can be used before going to bed, right after cleaning your face. The most common ingredients for oily skin packs are tomatoes or egg whites. Milk or oatmeal mixed with lemon juice is another favorite among people with greasy skin. These materials are said to be effective in controlling the skin's oil production, while providing the much needed moisture to keep the skin hydrated.

Acne treatments for oily or shiny skin do not entail mere formulas applied to your face; they should also include proper eating habits, a healthy lifestyle and proper hygiene. Maintaining an oily skin is more challenging compared with other skin types. If you want to be acne-free, you'd better be ready to put in the work and follow the steps mentioned above.

Beautiful Hair Comes From Within With Silica

Many people are unaware that beautiful hair is due largely to their intake of silica. Silica is a form of silicon, one of the most common elements in the earth, and that is literally where it is most found: in the earth. Most forms of stones and rock contain silicon in one form or another.

Silica is silicon in the form of Silicon dioxide, or SiO2. Appearing naturally as quartz, it is also the principal component of glass and sand. Silica is also a very common component of your body, and is contains in all of your connective tissues such as cartilage and tendons, nails, hair, muscle tissue and bone. Your complexion and shiny hair all depend upon silica, which apart from its other properties help your skin and hair to retain moisture and keep looking young.

Not only that, however, but it also strengthens your hair, and renders it less likely to become brittle and suffer from split ends and that dull look that so many women spend a fortune on trying to overcome with various types of hair conditioner. Conditioners are designed to keep the moisture in your hair; that is also one of the main properties of the form of silicon that we call silica. The term is often wrongly used for other forms of silicon such as silicates and silicones, although these do not take part in human biochemistry in the same way as silica does.

If your intake of silica is at its optimum, your skin and hair will be well hydrated, and maintain a luster that makes it attractive and young looking, rather than lank of frizzy. It is not an overnight effect, however, and you may have to take silica supplements for two or three months until you see visible effects. You should then be able to maintain the effects through diet, although silica supplements can be used if preferred. It is not only your hair that will benefit, but also your skin, as already suggested, will maintain a youthful hydrated look and the wrinkles will take longer to appear.

You will therefore tend to look younger for longer, especially if you also have a good intake of antioxidants to prevent free radical damage to your skin cells. Silica can help to prevent baldness, but it is stressed that it cannot be taken to cure it. It stimulates the growth of your hair and keeps it healthy and strong in addition to looking more beautiful and attractive.

Silica in all its forms is a trace mineral in our diets, and is a relatively rare component. It is also a very important mineral because human life depends upon it. There are certain food sources of silica that you can use to ensure that you get the maximum amount naturally that you can. The foods that contain most silica include cereals, especially oats and rice, which is why Asians tend to have the healthiest and strongest hair. Others are cucumbers, asparagus, lettuce cabbage, onions, potatoes and sunflower seeds. Fruits include strawberries, and if you eat a diet rich in these various foods, then you should have a good natural intake.

Other sources of silica include horsetail and oat straw, or the stalks left once the oats have been harvested. Although not conventionally eaten, these sources are used for the preparation of silica supplements. It has often been claimed that beer is a good source, but only because silica is frequently used in fine powder form to act a defoamer in beer.

Meat sources do not include much silica, and neither do processed foods. Most junk food diets are low in this mineral that is so vital for the condition of your hair, although it is not necessary to eat just a vegetarian diet. A good balanced diet is necessary to ensure that you do not become deficient in one nutrient because you are trying to increase your intake of another. That is a very easy and common error to make. If you include a reasonable amount of silica-containing foods in your diet then there is no need to eat only those foods.

As with many other trace elements necessary in human biochemistry, you do not have to take large amounts of silica to meet your daily needs, and it is not the foods that are rich in silica that is the only aspect of the mineral you should consider, but also in the form in which it is available for the body to use. This 'bioavailability' is very important with all forms of nutrition, not only silica, since if the body is unable to use it as part of its biochemistry, then it is of no use as a supplement.

As an example of this, the processing of foods, including grains, can convert silica to silicates that the body cannot use since its chemistry is unsuitable. Silicates have to be converted first to silicic acid which the human body can easily absorb through the intestines. This acid, then, would be a good supplement for those deficient in silica, though only very small amounts are needed by the body. In fact, silicic acid is the silica gel supplement that provides the silica needed for healthy hair, and is formed by the hydration of sodium silicate which itself cannot be absorbed by the intestines and take part in the human biochemical reactions needed.

The reason for the importance of silica is that it is converted to orthosilicic acid that is an essential part of the biochemical pathway for the formation and stabilization of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) or mucopolysaccharides, that are essential to human life. Chondroitin sulfate is an example of a GAG. As one ages, ones ability to produce these compounds in the stomach reduces, and is one reason for aging skin and hair.

The effect of silica in the human body in general, and on the hair in particular, has been proved, and as you age you will find the need for some form of supplementation. Even younger people who do not include an adequate quota of silica in their diet should consider a supplement containing this little known but essential trace element for bouncy, attractive and youthful hair.

It is known fact that beautiful hair comes from within with silica.

Solia Hair Styling Flat Iron Tips

Solia makes very good flat irons and it uses Tourmaline on all its ceramic plates. However just because you've bought a Solia flat iron isn't going to guarantee that your hair is going to look like you just stepped out of a salon. You also have to know how to use it.

Tourmaline is a precious stone and generates up to 6 times more negative ions than traditional ceramic. This greatly reduces the potential for heat damage to the hair and results in smoother, silkier hair that is less likely to frizz or curl back up. All good flat iron manufacturers now coat the ceramic plates on their flat irons with Tourmaline.

The company also uses a unique "dynamic alignment system" on the plates of its flat irons. This allows the ceramic/tourmaline plates to self-adjust as necessary in order to maintain even contact with the hair. This is important; evening out the pressure prevents the iron from focusing on any specific "hot spots" which could damage your hair.

How To Use Your Solia Flat Iron

Once you've purchased your Solia hair styling flat iron you ready to give yourself beautiful hair. Don't be nervous about using it; using it is simplicity itself. Here's a step by step guide.

1. Select the correct size of Solia hair straightener based on your type and length of hair. What is meant by size is the width of the ceramic plates of the flat iron. Most women will be fine with one that has plate sizes between 1.5" and 1".

2. When you first unpack your Solia Tourmaline flat iron don't plug it in straight away. Instead, just try using it without it being switched on. Get used to how it feels and try using it on your hair.

3. Before you use your hair straightener ensure that your hair is completely dry; use a blow-dryer.

4. When using your Solia flat iron you should always use a styling product to stop your hair from 'frizzing'. Apply serum or gel when drying your hair. Serums are silicon based. If you use a gel place a little into the palm of your hand and apply it evenly throughout your hair.

5. It sounds obvious but make sure your hair straightener is switched on and has reached its temperature setting. Also, determine what temperature is appropriate for your hair type. Normal hair can withstand a range of 300-370°F. Bleached, fragile, damaged and fine hair should use less than 300°F. Very thick, coarse, ethnic or resistant hair can stand more than 370°F, but be sure to use this selection very carefully.

6. Use barrettes and/or hair clips to pull away hair you're not working on. Take a small section of your hair to start with. Don't be tempted to use thicker sections; by working with small sections and slices, you can apply the heat evenly, and will get the desired straightness faster.

7. Begin straightening by taking a small chunk of hair and, starting at the root of the hair, work your way down slowly but steadily. Once you've finished a section, comb through it and spray with hairspray, if desired.

8. Straightening the back hairs can be difficult. Until you get the hang of it, try placing two mirrors on the diagonal so you can see the back of your head. Then, do as in step 7, starting at the bottom of your head (the nape/neck area) and working your way to the crown of your head, just like your stylist does.

It takes time and practice to perfect most things. The good news is that it shouldn't take long at all to get that perfect, sleek, shiny finish using your Solia flat iron.

1900s-1960s - Historic Changes In Women's Fashion

Women's fashion has been influenced throughout the years by history, location and design. In addition, a woman's status in society has also had an influence, depending on what clothing choices were accepted and expected of her. Women's roles influenced popular clothing styles, as seen through the length of hemlines, the layers of clothing worn, the types of shoes worn, and what was considered to be in fashion in general during a particular period of time. Following are some trends and the changes that have happened through the years, beginning with the 1900s.

During the 1900s, women's legs and feet were almost never seen, unless they were sitting. Therefore, stockings, shoes and other types of footwear didn't get much attention and in fact were designed to draw as little attention as possible. During this period, clothing and shoes often had silk bows, dark colors and small buckles. Shoes had pointed toes and a moderate high heel. After the Civil War, women's skirts were narrower and were more cone-shaped rather then bell-shaped. Clothing was very heavily starched and shirtwaists came in style; these were fashioned after men's shirts.

In the 1920s, it was no longer considered indecent to show one's legs, and clothing reflected this. Hemlines rose and women began to take an interest in flesh-colored stockings and shoes. Silk stockings were expensive and accompanied eveningwear. Ribbed and patterned selections, which were diamond cut, were very in fashion. The "flapper" fashion began with the Roaring 20s, and emphasized very light ethereal fabrics, handkerchief hemlines, and girdles.

In the 1930s, a more "ladylike" appearance was in fashion again. Clothing was very feminine, with crisp, clean lines during the day and with glamor emphasized by night. Shoes were more sophisticated and the open toed sandal made its appearance. There were also short fitted suits and jackets and the still popular "little black dress." Nylon was introduced as a fabric, which made stockings much cheaper versus the much more expensive silk.

In the 1940s, World War II negatively impacted women's fashion as leather became scarcer and certain fabrics were hard to get. Wooden soled shoes with wedge heels became common and many clothing items were rationed. To get rationed items, you had to use issued "coupons." Items that were not rationed included ribbons, lace, clogs, suspenders and mending wool. For variety, women began to paint their shoes with bright colors or to decorate the side of the soles with small items like shells or studs.

In the 1950s, glamor was once again back in fashion. Full skirts with petticoats, fancy suits, and swoop line empire dresses were popular. Stiletto heels and Italian shoes were the ultimate in elegance and refinement. Seamless stockings and beehive hairdos also became the rage.

By the 1960s, fashion reflected the freethinking attitudes of the time. Skirts were very short, and the miniskirt was suddenly in fashion. Stockings were no longer in vogue and pantyhose made their appearance. Flat boots were worn with very short dresses or miniskirts. Other fashion firsts were psychedelic prints, "everything denim" worn as everyday clothing rather than simply for casual or leisure time, and the introduction of the pillbox hat. Once again, shoes had thicker low heels with rounded or squared toes. Shoes with big buckles were also popular, and had matching gold or silver heels to match those buckles.

20 Quick and Easy Make-up Tips

Here are quick and easy make-up tips. Anybody can use these as they are not targeting anyone with special features.

- If you do not have time for a full make-up, but want to look great. Paint on a bright red lipstick. At least its happy and glamorous color will immediately brightens your face.

- Sweep a little loose powder under your eyes when applying dark shades of eye shadow to catch any falling specks and prevent them from staining your skin.

- Make your lips look larger by wearing a bright, light lipstick. Or make them appear small by wearing dark and more muted colors.

- If you do not have a specialized contouring product for cheeks, simply use an ordinary face powder a couple of shades darker than your usual one to slim down the cheeks.

- Add a drop of witch hazel available in all good drug stores to turn ordinary foundation into a medicated one, it will work wonders on oily skin, which is prone to acne and pimples.

- Mascara your lashes before applying false ones to help them stick properly.

- If you look tired then blend a little concealer just away from the outer corner of your eye. It will make you look as though you had a good night's sleep.

- Never apply makeup before blow-drying your hair - the heat from the dryer can make you perspire and cause your makeup to smudge.

- The color of powder eye shadow can be made to look more intense by dipping your eye shadow brush in water first.

- Keep eye lashes smooth and supple by brushing them with petroleum jelly before going to bed at night.

- Apply cream blusher in light downward movements to prevent it from creasing in specks of color from catching in the fine hairs on your face.

- If mascara tends to clog on your lower lashes then try using a small thin brush to paint color on to individual lashes.

- Make sure you give moisturizer time to sink in before you start applying your makeup as it will help your makeup go on more easily.

- If your eyeliner is too hard and drags your skin, hold it next to a lighter bulb for a few seconds before applying.

- Lip gloss can look sophisticated if you just apply a dot in the center of your lower lip.

- If you are unsure where to apply blusher, gently pinch your cheeks. If you like the effect, apply blusher in the same area.

- To prevent lipstick from getting on your teeth, try this tip. After putting it on, put your finger in the mouth, purse your lips and pull it out.

- Women who wear glasses need to take special advice on makeup. If you are near-sighted, your glasses will make your eyes look smaller. So, go for brighter eye shadows and lots of mascara to ensure they do not disappear.

- A little foundation lightly rubbed through your eyebrows and brushed through with an old toothbrush will instantly lighten them.

- For long lasting blush on sunny days or hot nights, apply both cream and powder blusher. Apply the cream formulation first, set with translucent powder then dust with a little powder blush.

Have fun discovering your new colors.

Make-up Tips for Brown Eyes

Brown eyes come in many different shades so let's look at a kaleidoscope of colors to help us to enhance eye color. Colors opposite each other will be complementary so, will work to brighten each other up. For example: Red and green, orange and blue, purple and yellow. Depending on the shade of brown your eyes are will determine the shades of eye shadow you may use to brighten the brown which, may give you the effect of lightening that you are after, especially if you use colors that shimmer. If your eyes have a yellow tinge, try using an eye shadow with a purple tone.

The next thing you need to consider is the one rule of makeup that will always guide you: Light colors bring out, make larger and highlight. Dark colors recede, minimize or contour. So with this in mind you could work with dark eyeliner and light eye shadow colors to emphasize your dark chocolate eyes with black liner, mascara, a smudge of pale pink eye shadow, and finish with lightly flushed cheeks and make your lips your signature. Create lip focus with a red or berry stain. To pull color focus from your eyes, giving the illusion of lighter eyes, go for a deeper shade of lip color.

Dark brown eyes are very versatile when it comes to color accents, and dark brown eyes are such a beautiful feature to have, I would play them up. Compliment your brown eyes with pale pinks, or accent the brown with gold and deep rusts. Have you tried using eyeliner to add definition? One look is to use one sheer glittery eye shadow used all over in combination with a softly smudged liner for a more sophisticated look.

I would definitely recommend you have a play with colored eyeliners. Dark brown eyes look stunning lined in shades of plum mix with a pale mauve shadow, aubergine mix with a shimmery light pink shadow, raisin mix with a mushroom soft brown shadow. Just remember to combine with a lighter shadow or your eyes may look more dramatic. There are various methods of using eyeliner. Pencils are the most versatile eye-defining tools, as you can start softly, blending each layer back if it starts to become too heavy looking. Pencil can be smudged softly, or add depth under an eye shadow for a muted look, or used alone for strongly defined eyes.

Liquid eyeliner is much more dramatic, and can be applied over top of your eye pencil for added intensity, or used under eye shadow to enhance your eye shape. Both of these techniques ensure longwearing eyeliner.

For the most natural way to line your eyes, use a small, firm brush and apply eye shadow as your eyeliner. Make the most of your dark brown eyes, using soft pinks to really bring them out. Use brown mascara for day, and a black/brown mascara for evening or special occasions. Keep eyeliner to a minimum though. Just use it to softly frame your eyes. Avoid all black as it tends to be too strong. Chocolates, deep plums and charcoals smudged into your lashes will do the trick. You might like to try adding a very subtle contour in a soft mushroom color on your brow bone just above your crease and blend this softly.

On the days you feel like your eyes need a pick-me-up, jazz up your eye make-up a little. Graduating your eye makeup from at your lash line to your brow will give your eyes more depth. Use the darkest shade along your lash line, and merge into lighter shades nearer your brow. Contouring and shading can create the illusion of different eye shapes. By using dark to minimize and light to make larger, you can play with altering the length and size of your eyes.

If you just want to keep it simple, sweep a shimmery pastel shadow all over your lid, curl your lashes, apply 2 to 3 coats dark grey charcoal or dark brown mascara, and add a few individual false lashes on the outer corner of your eyes!

Have fun discovering your new colors.

Artistic Make-up....Yes Please!!!

To look attractive is a never ending desire from the ages for the human beings. Make up provided the solutions to this problem. It enhances the positive parts of your beauty and hides the ugly part cleverly. As the desire to show the beauty and attraction in different perspectives the demand for good make up artists began to trickle in. There are different demands for different occasions, like daily make up, natural make up, party make up, bridal make up, Stage make up, make for photography and modeling and movie and television make up.

The word "Make up Artist" gained its relevancy in the 1930s when professional movie production houses felt the need to give the artists a perfect look for the character they were playing. Usually make-up artists apply make-up and style hair for performers and presenters appearing on film, stage and television (they also help you with the day-to-day or special occasion or bridal make ups). The style varies from straightforward, contemporary make-up and hairdressing to more creative and specialist techniques.

Make-up artists play a large role, with important tasks which includes selecting and purchasing supplies, doing 'corrective' make-up and hair tidying, as well as applying full make-up, discussing with individuals/ directors / lighting departments the overall effect that they wan. This also includes lots of research for styles of hair and make-up, how to add prosthetics such as false noses and scars, wigs and hair decorations while doing the make up for movie, television and theatre production houses. For the professional make up artists working hours are long and irregular, and include evenings, weekends and public holidays. The work area is mainly restricted to indoors.

The job of a make up artist is very challenging. To become a good make-up artist he or she should be knowledgeable about a range of make-up and hair products, most important of all is that the make up artist should be innovative, artistic, creative, imaginative and resourceful. The make up artist should be diplomatic and tactful and should be able to cope with nervous individuals and performers and above all make up artist should enjoy working with a variety of people.

Good make-up artists must be artistically inclined and must possess a well-developed sense of colour and form. Imagination, initiative and originality are important qualities they should possess. Manual agility is absolutely essential. Since make-up artists work with many people, friendliness, patience and tact are essential qualities they must possess. Make-up artists must be dedicated to their job and be keen to learn and experiment with original and creative ideas. Make-up artists can specialize in more than one field such as model make-up, old-age make-up, fantasy make-up etc. The make-up artist first analyzes the faces of their clients, before they start applying the makeup. They consider the shape, bone structure, eye shape and complexion of the clients and the outcome they have to produce out of it. Make-up sessions can be very time-consuming, especially when special effects have to be created, and make-up artists have to stand on their feet for long periods. It could be expected of them to work any time of the day or night.

Most make-up artists are freelance so there is intense competition for individual contracts. Artists skilled in both make-up and hair styling have better prospects. Make-up artists usually enter the profession through make-up/beauty therapy courses and begin their career in beauty salons. Many of them start their career in film, stage or television as an assistant. Training for the make up artists is mainly on the job. For freelance make-up artists, advancement depends on establishing a reputation in the business and progressing onto more high profile productions.

Make Up Trends For Autumn Winter 2007/08

The Basics This season sees make up that is as bold as you imagination, or as sophisticated as black and white movie stars. Which ever look you are going for a few basic rules apply. Leave the summer bronze and light pinks behind and bring on the bold and the confident winter colours. Bases are nude and matte, cheeks are pale peach or a matte pink, lips are red or plump coloured gloss and eyes are smoky or colourful. A little powder to set the look but not too much. Brows are prominent this season. Keep a natural shape to them and darken their effect with a brow filler, stronger than pencils these come in wax, gel or cream alternatives. For lighter haired people keep to a light medium brown, darker haired people have the option of dark brown.

Smokey grey eyes. Not black but just as sophisticated this season sees grey eyes. This look is best achieved with four tones but three will do just as well. To ensure you get matching tones go for one of the many palettes on the market. The tones range from charcoal to pale grey highlighter. The lighter base shade is applied to the entire lid. The darker base is added through the crease. The darkest tone is kept at the outer corner and the brow line is highlighted, as is the centre of the lid to open the eye. Blend well. A grey liner works well, black is bolder depending on your look, do the upper and lower lash lines, smudge to soften. If you choose add a little of the second lightest tone under the eye.

Cats Eyes For a bold look choose a liquid or gel liner, kohl works for a more subtle effect, apply as close as possible to the upper lash line. Create the cat effect by applying the shadow in an upward sweeping motion away from the eyes then complete the rest of the lid. Apply lots of mascara.

Bold Colours This season is seeing a fantastic range of bright colours that are subtle metallics. The choice of colour is endless but again go for a pallet if you are unsure of matching the tones. For a bolder look experiment with multiple colours on the eyes. Remember the golden rule that if you have bright eyes then less on the lips and vice versa. This is classic fro the rock chick look, non-traditional colours with thin liquid liner, heavy brows, matte skin so as not to clash with the colour and paler lips. Rock chick look can also be achieved without the bold colours by focusing on the eyes with grey tones and pink lips.

Red Lips The retro chic look cries out red lips. With many products on the market choose a red to match your colouring. Glossy red is difficult to maintain but makes the strongest statement. To keep precision in the look go for a red close to your natural colour so that when it wears away it will not appear messy and smudged. Also lip liner works well with this look. If going for the red lips keep the rest of your make up minimal.

Lace Front Wigs - Your Secret Weapon For Natural Looking Gorgeous Hair

You often see fashion magazines featuring fascinating models with beautiful hair in gorgeous shades of ebony, blonde and brown, but what many don't know is that most of these beautiful models are not actually posing with their natural hair but rather they are wearing lace front wigs. You too can look as fascinating as these models with the addition of a lace front wig to your beauty arsenal. Lace front wigs are hair wigs made of real or synthetic hair designed to be worn for fashion aesthetic and stylistic reasons, or to hide alopecia or balding. These wigs are very popular among celebrities and models and the general public is catching on fast.

Lace front wigs are called this because they are constructed by sewing hair onto an invisible lace base that is custom cut perfectly to the wig wearer's hairline. These wigs are the most natural looking wigs on the market today. They are perfectly shaped and very light weight. When worn correctly, no-one will be able to tell that you are wearing a wig as these hair units boast an invisible hairline which gives off the appearance that the wig hair is actually growing from your scalp. Lace front wigs really offer you a natural and original look which is why they are immensely popular, and if you are losing your hair, they offer an excellent hair replacement solution. In addition, unlike weaves, fusion, strand-by-strand, and many other popular hair extension methods that can damage your hair and natural hairline, lace front wigs are completely safe.

Another great feature of lace front wigs is that you can style them easily. Do you remember the popular lengthy curls of Jessica Simpson, or the silky straight look of Beyonce? These styles can be achieved with a lace front wig... as a matter of fact the styling possibilities are virtually unlimited. You can truly get the hair that you have always desired. Lace front wigs can also be worn under diverse weather conditions. You can even take a shower or go swimming with the wig on. Next to the fact that these hair units are virtually undetectable, their versatility and durability are key factors that make people fall for them.

Lace front wigs are not cheap. A well made high quality lace wig unit constructed with 100% human Indian hair will range in price from $500 to $3000 plus. You may be able to find retailers selling them for less than $500 but they are usually of a sub-par quality and you should proceed with caution because as the saying goes you get what you pay for. Even though these wigs are on the expensive side, they still may prove to be more economical in the long run to those who normally visit the hair salon every 2 weeks or every month for a relaxer, perm or touch-up.

Lace front wigs are available in a wide range of colors and textures such as straight, wavy, body wave or curly. These wigs come in any length ranging from short crop to super long. The majority of people who purchase these wigs get them custom made to fit their exact head measurements. If you order a custom lace front wig unit you should expect to wait 4-6 weeks on average to receive your wig. Some lace front wig retailers do offer non-custom in-stock units in a variety of different measurements, but if it is your first time buying a lace front wig, it is not recommended that you buy a stock unit unless you are actually able to try the wig on first to insure that it fits perfectly. When you spend several hundred dollars on a wig you deserve a perfect fit! A custom lace front wig unit tailored to your exact head measurements in which you choose the color, highlights, length, hair texture, hair density, lace type and more is worth the wait!

So, whether you are just looking to improve your hair style and looks, or if you suffer from hair loss due to any reason and need a hair replacement solution... you should consider investing in a lace front wig. You should know that, unless you live in a major city, you may have a hard time finding a lace front wig dealer in your local area because even though these wigs are gaining in popularity, they are still pretty exclusive due to their high end price tag. If there are no lace front wig dealers in your area you are still in luck as there are numerous online wig stores such as www.lacefrontwigshop.com that sell an extensive range of these wigs. As with any online purchase you should be very selective when choosing who to buy from to avoid getting scammed. Make sure that the establishment list a contact phone number and address.

Is your hair suffering from too much summer sunshine? Proper hair treatment is essential!

If your hair is bleached or highlighted your hair, or you lazed for hours in the pool, fall is the perfect time of the year to nurse your tresses back to health. Start now and your hair will be shiny and healthy just in time for those holiday parties!

The health of your hair depends mainly on how you treat it and the products you use. Ask your hairdresser about your hair type. Whether it is dry, oily or normal, choose the right shampoo for your hair. Avoid the common mistake of using shampoos and conditioners that are too harsh or too nourishing for your hair type. For instance, if your hair is oily, make sure your shampoo is designed for oily hair. If you have dry hair, look for a more hydrating and nourishing formula to give it the extra moisture it craves.

Apply shampoo like the Pureology shampoo from Drugstore.com on damp hair with light massaging motions. Applying shampoo twice should be enough to cleanse and nourish your hair; otherwise you run the risk of drying your hair out. If the formula is too harsh it can strip your hair of its essential oils. Always make sure you rinse out the shampoo thoroughly.

Hair Care Tips:

* Apply a hair mask, or hot oil like Alberto VO5 Hot Oil Hair Treatment from Drugstore.com for a longer time than your normal conditioner to nourish and condition your hair once or twice a week. It's essential for every hair type, especially for those with colored or chemically treated hair. Leave the mask on for at least 10-15 minutes.

* Avoid 2 in 1 products which don't have enough nourishment.

* Don't use too many nourishing or styling products - creams, gels, foams, mousses, sprays because they can lead to dandruff and itchy scalp.

* Avoid using products containing silicone if you hair is oily or too thin. These types of products can weight your hair down and take the luster out of your locks.

* Silicon based products are appropriate for dry and chemically treated hair. Try Pureology Nanoworks Condition Revitalisant from Drugstore.com - where you get 17% BondRewards!
